Assumptions Make An A** Out of You and Me

Have you ever noticed that sometimes you make assumptions about things without realizing them? These assumptions are called presuppositions, powerful tools that can influence the subconscious mind.

A presupposition is an underlying assumption we make when communicating with ourselves or others.  It's something we assume to be true without questioning it.  In other words, it's a hidden message embedded in our language that affects how we and others behave.

Let's say you want to convince your friend to join you for a workout. You could use a positive presupposition by saying, "When you come with me to the gym, you'll feel energized and healthy!" This presupposes that your friend will come to the gym with you and that they will feel energized and healthy after their workout.

On the other hand, you could use a negative presupposition by saying, "I know you're probably too busy to work out with me." This presupposes that your friend is too busy and that they will not have time to work out with you.

Presuppositions work great on kids: Suppose your child is procrastinating on studying for an upcoming exam. You can use presuppositions to motivate them to take action. For example, you can say, "When you finish studying, what's the first thing you're going to do to celebrate?" By presupposing that your teenager will finish studying, you're motivating them to take action toward their goal.

It's important to remember that presuppositions can be used for positive or negative outcomes, so use them for the benefit of others.

To begin using presuppositions in your communication, start by paying attention to the assumptions you are making.  Immediately correct negative presuppositions you notice with positive ones. It takes some practice, but you can train your brain to spot presuppositions.

In conclusion, presuppositions are a powerful way to influence the subconscious mind.  If you're interested in learning more about how to use presuppositions to create positive change, consider reaching out to a Freedom Life Coach for guidance and support.
