I Wish...

Do you find yourself wishing things were different? Do you find yourself wishing you were further along in your career? So do millions of other Americans. While wishing seems harmless on the surface, it can be devasting on a deeper level.
Growing up, I remember watching reruns of "I Dream of Jeannie" after school. In this old NBC sitcom Tony, an astronaut discovers a magic bottle containing a genie that has been trapped for over 2000 years. The genie, a cute and hilarious blond, instantly falls in love with Tony. And the entire series is based on Jeannie, the genie, using her power to fulfill Tony's wishes. However, each fulfilled wish brings unintended comical consequences.
You might not have a genie in the bottle, but you still might be wishing your life away. Let me explain; you might be wishing your life was different. You might be wishing for the next great thing in your life. And you're so focused on wishing for something different or the next thing that you're missing in the present moments. That hug from your kids, that kiss on the cheek from your spouse, that hug from your aging mom, that kind word, that beautiful flower, that gorgeous sunset.
Don't allow life to slip by; embrace the small things, the sacred moments, that make life meaningful and fulfilling. Be present. Extract every ounce of meaning, joy, and love from every second. Treat every moment like your last moment. Treat every conversation with those you love like the last one you will ever have with them. Practice this, and you will get more fulfillment out of life in one day than most people will in an entire year.
