A Candle in the Hands of God

I presume you have heard the saying, "That a picture is worth a thousand words" If that is true, then a metaphor is worth ten thousand words. Metaphors are powerful because they communicate an encyclopedia of information into one statement. They are easy to understand because they make a connection between something we already know and something we are trying to understand better. A metaphor has an overabundance of insight, wisdom, and information within it.

Over my career, I have embraced the metaphor that I am simply a candle in the hands of God. A candle that has been lit by God for the purpose of lighting other candles. This metaphor serves to keep me humble and grateful for the opportunity to help others in transforming their lives. I have seen some remarkable changes take place in the lives of many of my clients. Without this metaphor in place, it would be easy to become prideful and arrogant.

With this metaphor in mind, I share the following unedited email I received this week from a client.

"Words cannot explain how powerful, worthwhile, and life-changing my coaching experience has been. No person could have prepared me for the radical shift I would see in my life. It is like my life's garden was completely weeded and renovated with brand new flowers that will endure any type of weather. Lies were uprooted, definitions challenged, and perspectives changed.
