This Little Light Of Mine

I had one of those moments today. The one when you suddenly recall the melody of an old song. The kind that puts a smile on your face.
I grew up in the Bible Belt and was raised in a small country church. My devoted mom made sure I was at church a minimum of 3 times a week. While faithfully attending Sunday School, I learned a catchy little song. If you grew up in church, you will recognize it immediately.
I grew up in the Bible Belt and was raised in a small country church. My devoted mom made sure I was at church a minimum of 3 times a week. While faithfully attending Sunday School, I learned a catchy little song. If you grew up in church, you will recognize it immediately.
The lyrics go something like this…
This little light of mine
I'm going to let it shine
This little light of mine
I'm going to let it shine
This little light of mine
I'm going to let it shine
.
Hide it under a bushel? No!
I'm going to let it shine
Hide it under a bushel? No!
I'm going to let it shine
Hide it under a bushel? No!
I'm going to let it shine
Let it shine, let it shine, let shine
The words to this song ring true today. We all carry a little light inside of us. By little light, I mean we all have a gift. A gift that was awarded to us by God. It's a gift to serve the world and make it better. You might call it a talent, a skill, an aptitude, or a strength, but it was given to make the world a better place.
The issue is many individuals hide or deny their gifting. Whether it's insecurity, doubt, or fear, the result is the same. The world remains a little darker.
What gift are you hiding from the world? The world needs your little light (gift) to shine. Don't hide it under a bushel. Let It Shine, Let It Shine, Let It Shine! Together we can make the world a brighter and better place.
